Welcome!

Welcome to the Weyr of Paper Dragon. Please forgive me for my thoughtlessness in not updating my page sooner. It's been a busy life lately... Anyways to answer a couple of questions that immediately come to mind for most of my visitors.

  • Why Paper Dragon? Paper Dragon has been my online handle since I was first introduced to the Internet in 1992 during my freshman year of college at Lawrence University. Origami (the Japanes art of paperfolding) has always been a favorite hobby of mine. During my freshman year I learned how to fold a western style paper dragon that is now my signature piece. If you're curious as to what they look like my animated banner is a very good depiction of one from a side view.
  • Why a Weyr?... Heck what is a Weyr? I'm also a very big fan of the Dragon Rider's of Pern series by Anne McCaffrey and the homes/lairs of the dragons in her novels are called Weyr's. Thus my page's title is for me, in some small way, paying homage to Mrs. McCaffrey's wonderful books.

Trivia!!

For those who don't know me, one of my biggest interests is trivia. In the spring of 1993 I was shanghaied into playing on my dorm's team for the Midwest Trivia Contest at lawrence University in Appleton, WI. I was so taken in by the whole thing that the next fall I was lucky enough to accepted as a new recruit for the Trivia Masters, those crazy people who actually run the contest. For three years("94, "95, and "96) I was lucky enough to be associated with that fine contest and so far every year since then I have gone back to play on an On-campus team, lugging boxes of books and videos accross the state in the hopes I might actually have the answer somewhere in one of them.

My interest in the contest has never really waned since I left Lawrence, in fact over the years I have worked diligently to track down the names of other Alumni Trivia Masters as well as the history of the contest in general, not to mention the history of contests like it as well. If you're interested in taking a peek at a little bit of trivial history check out the Scarlet Armadillo's Trivia Page: The Trivia Vaults. Dig through some old clippings and past score sheets. Look up the latin phrases and the theme songs from years past. Read all about what Playboy Magazine had to say about Trivia back in the August of 1978(Contesting Trivia; Playboy, August 1978). Plus if you feel up to it why not try the Trivia Challenge?(Starts in March)
