I've played music since I was in 4th Grade (Fall 1987 - You do the math). I started as a trombone player and have remained a trombone player since. Along the way, I picked up the Euphonium and Tuba during high school.
Once high school ended, I attended the Lawrence University Conservatory of Music, and eventually graduated with a Bacholer of Music degree in Low Brass Music Performance.
During my time in college, I was not one of those people who confined themselves to a practice room 10 hours a day - I had a lot of other things going on. I became a member of the Gamma Zeta Chapter of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Music Fraternity, which was a big part of my college years. I became a recording engineer when I got to college and picked up the trade of audio technology as I went along. I was involved in many CD projects through Lawrence - mainly as an assistant egineer. I also learned proper micing of instruments, and I also learned the fine art of live sound. I also was a Web Developer for the Lawrence Conservatory of Music throughout my time at Lawrence.
Another thing that I ended up becoming involved in was work in the theatre. I was heavily involved in theatre in high school, but when I got to college I never could find the time. Then in my 4th year of college, I got a call from a friend to run sound for his senior theatre project, and the "Theatre Bug" returned. If I have had more time, I would have pursued a theatre degree, but I got heavily involved in productions and took several classes in the theatre department. Perhaps one of these days I can get the chance to work in theatre, whether it be as an actor (my specialty is Improv Acting), as a stagehand, as a roadie, or perhaps I'll get the illusive theatre degree.
Nowadays, my musical talents, my drive to improve myself, and having enough of being a struggling freelancer, guided me to the U.S. Army Bands. Currently I am stationed at Fort Drum, New York, as a member of the 10th Mountain Division Band. The Army Bands has been a place where all my cummulative skills can be utilized and homnmed into sharper use, as the band supports itself in every aspect. I work as one of the Sound Engineers for some of the small ensembles with the band (most notably the Artic Fusion Showband, and the Rock Band), as well as assist in the large ensemble setups (though most of the I'm setting it up and then going to be on the microphone side of the equation).
