Why You Should Hire Keith Rose

euph.jpg (10675 bytes)I am in the process of looking to begin a career in the music industry. My college education at the Lawrence University Conservatory of Music was very diverse, and has more than prepared me for such a pursuit in this profession.

I am a 2001 graduate, receiving the Bachelor of Music Degree in Low Brass Performance, with bass trombone as my primary instrument. However, I am also capable of performing on euphonium, tenor trombone, and tuba. I have been working as a freelance musician in a variety of settings since graduation. In my time majoring in Low Brass Performance, my studies were of utmost importance to me. At the same time, I realized that the professional world would also require me to be well rounded, not just book smart. I knew my education would not amount to much by merely spending 8 hours a day in a practice room. To acquire the skills that would prepare me for applying my musical education to a career, I involved myself in an assortment of activities outside the classroom. One such example is my membership to Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, the men's professional music fraternity. Phi Mu Alpha is an organization of men dedicated to the lifelong pursuit of music. My time spent with my peers in this group played an essential role in fashioning me into someone who is ready for challenges beyond the basics of the profession.

It takes more than the ability to make music to be ready for a place in the profession. One must be ready with ways to apply such skills to real-world opportunities. When I wasn’t studying, I was very active working in the recording studio, where I served as the Assistant Director of Recording Services for several years. This was time well spent; it allowed me to have a unique vantage point from which to learn about the studio and the recording industry too. Gaining all kinds of experience within Recording Services (recording, session setup/sound design, mixing, mastering/editing, producing, and live sound engineering) has seasoned me for work in the recording industry. A list of my recording-specific skills can be viewed here.

Another aspect of my talents that emerged from my diverse college education was my renewed involvement in theatre. I was very active in theatre work during high school, both in acting and in the technical realm of theatre. My penchant for theatre was dormant during my earlier college years, but after I was asked to serve as a Sound Designer/Engineer for a senior theatre project, this interest of mine finally came off the back burner. This golden opportunity resulted in my head-first jump back into theatre. I took theatre classes, worked in productions, and joined an Improvisational Comedy troupe as an actor. My theatre qualifications are listed here.

I also managed to make my way into the radio world as an on-air personality at WLFM, Lawrence University's student radio station. At first, I served as an occasional co-host on a traditional blues program. The following year, I was given the opportunity to host my own radio show, which led me to pursue my interest in stand-up comedy and comedy music. The radio program "Insanity on the Airwaves"was born, and went on to have a successful run on WLFM in addition to attracting a cult following on the internet via streaming audio. After I graduated from Lawrence, I stopped the show for a few months to pursue a musical endeavor which was less then successful. Thereafter, I decided to take the opportunity to bring my show back on the internet. When this chance presented itself, I grabbed the bull by the horns and jumped back into hosting the show with renewed vigor. To view a resume listing my radio skills, please proceed to here.

Adding to my versatility, I have a wealth of computer skills which I sharpened while in college, and have continued to use frequently since graduation. My "Web Design Masterpiece" is the website for the Lawrence Conservatory of Music. I was the sole designer for the conservatory site from the ground up from the beginning of the project in 1998 until I graduated in 2001. My site design and structure is still the model of the site to this day, which is standing proof that the site design I created is of utmost quality. In conjunction with my web design duties, I also served as a technology consultant and as an in-house computer consultant. This responsibility involved working with several faculty members to fill technology-related needs that would inevitably arise. For a listing of these tasks, please click here.

If after reading this you feel that I would be a good fit in working in the music industry, please do not hesitate to call, write, or email me with any questions.
